FAQ: HOW DO YOU PICK YOUR BAKING CLASS TOPICS?

A lot of people ask me how or who picks my baking class topics. I am definitely the one that has final say as to what gets chosen to put on the schedule, but I ALWAYS ask for input from my students and incorporate as many ideas of theirs as possible. These classes are for YOU to grow as a baker and for me to continue to grow as a Teacher and keep an open mind to what you may want or need to learn.

Some of my favorite classes have come from students and here are a few:

  • Pretzels- this class was suggested by a 7 year old who did a cinnamon rolls birthday party with me in 2018. After I taught her birthday baking class I asked if there were any other ideas she had for classes. She noticed a pretzel warmer on the cabinet in the kitchen and said pretzels and I ended up Teaching that class at least 7 times before the end of my first year of Teaching.

  • French Macarons- this was and still is the most frequently requested class, and the first class I was super hesitant to Teach. I had only made them a few times and it seemed to challenging to Teach in a large group setting. I actually had my 2 nieces learn how to make them with me when they were 8 and they did great, so I added it to the schedule and it remains on my schedule 5 years later! This brought friends, family members and individuals who were ready to trying something fun and new and also appealed to anyone who was gluten free.

  • Cheesecakes- I started baking cheesecakes before I was professionally trained and have always loved the versatility of them and unique flavors that you could make. This was often inquired about so I added it to the schedule my 2nd year of Teaching.

  • Donuts- This topic was often suggested, but I was not able to use a fryer in the kitchen I rented, so this did not become a possible class to teach until the pandemic. I am so glad I taught it and so many of my students continue to make these every weekend!

  • Croissants- This was asked immediately when I began teaching, but due to the timing and lack of necessary equipment for this class at the kitchen I was renting, this was not possible until the pandemic. This class requires 2 days of work and 7 hours together. It is much easier to make at home and take breaks in between. This was definitely a great class and I am glad I finally taught it in 2021! I was super nervous about this one especially because it was virtual. It was a success and again, I have students continue to make these on a regular basis.

There have been over 400 topics and over 600 classes since 2018 so I could go on and on and on! If you ever have an idea for a class, please contact me. It may end up on the schedule or if not, we can always do a private class!
