What it's really like to run a business with no business background

It’s been almost 7 years since I started my business. This business has changed constantly for a multitude of reasons. I also have changed in more ways than I ever expected, however my goal has never changed, to make baking fun and less stressful for YOU.

I run this business 100% on my own with zero business background besides learning as I go.

I do everything from sales, marketing, recipe development, I purchase supplies, ingredients, teach the classes, run the website, run my own social media, answer emails, attend events, network, and it’s extremely challenging and can be exhausting.

I am less than 2 months from my 7th anniversary and I honestly thought I would be able to hire full time staff by now. Unfortunately, that has not been able to happen for a multitude of reasons, but mostly because I have not had a location for almost half the time that I have been running this business.

I finally found a location last August and it has been a game changer! I signed a 1 year lease and was finally able to breathe a little bit more knowing I had an actual answer to the question….”Where are you located?” and also that I could say yes more often than previously to hosting classes because I have had a location.

My days are filled with constantly running around to get materials for classes, creating new recipes, updating my website, running my social media, trying to market myself, doing laundry before an after classes so you come into a room with fresh aprons and linens every time.

Running a a business means always having to readjust and I have done this more times that I can actually count.

The last 10 months have been amazing because YOU have been showing up again and again and again and I will continue to work at keeping this business alive as long as you continue to support me.

You see all the happy things, not the stressful things, because no one really wants to see the struggle. It is a struggle, but it Is also extremely rewarding. I get to help you become more confident and successful bakers and I get to be part of your baking experiences, I get to be a gift to many of your friends, family and co-workers and I get to do what I love, Bake with all of you.
